The Ayers Foundation offers a variety of grants to non-profit organizations that support the mission of sustaining and improving the quality of life in Tennessee.  The Ayers Foundation targets its grants in three major areas:

1   Education – scholarships, programs and related projects
for educational opportunities.

2   Social Welfare –organizations dedicated to innovative healthcare, enlightened citizenship and improved human relations
3   Conservation – organizations dedicated to the preservation of our natural resources and wildlife habitats.

The Ayers Foundation neither lends nor grants money to individuals.

Each application must be accompanied with the following documents:

  1. A tax determination letter indicating your tax exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501 (c) (3), which identifies your 509(a) status.
  2. Directory of officers and directors.
  3. Most recent audited financial statement or most recent federal tax return.

All grant requests must be received by October 15th for consideration for funding for the following calendar year.

The Ayers Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant proposals.  As a matter of policy the following are not ordinarily funded:

  • Individuals and/or their personal projects
  • Private Foundations
  • Political Activities
  • Advertising or sponsorships
  • Recurring expenses for operations and/or salaries of an organization outside The Ayers Foundation
  • Projects, programs, or organizations that serve a limited audience or a relatively small number of people
  • Endowments
  • Social or fundraising events
  • Organizations whose principle impact is outside the state of Tennessee
  • Religious Organizations for religious purposes

All organizations requesting grants are subject to a review process with The Ayers Foundation President that includes submission of an application, initial application review with The Ayers Foundation President, a possible site visit, and approval by The Ayers Foundation's Board of Directors.

The Ayers Foundation's fiscal year ends December 31st. The Ayers Foundation's Board of Directors meets throughout the year to fulfill its responsibilities in approving grants for nonprofit organizations. Grant award recipients for the fiscal year ending December 31st will be notified no later than the first quarter of the new fiscal year and checks will be delivered according to quarterly determinations.
